ALGWA SA provides events including networking, celebration, support and learning opportunities for members and others interested in supporting women in local government.  

Our events enable attendees to widen their networks,  celebrate with us, support each other and share experiences.

ALGWA Annual Breakfast being held in Canberra on Wednesday, 25 June 2025 from 6.45am in conjunction with the ALGA National General Assembly.
Join ALGWA at the 2025 NGA for an informative and friendly networking breakfast to kick off your day. 
Guest speaker, Kate Driver, CEO Institue of Public Administration Australia will speak to the theme of "Collective Leadership and embedding diverse and respectful voices in everyday public sector practice" covering:
  • The public sector economy, how it is essential in delivering impact and thriving communities
  • Creative and collaborative leadership to enhance community value
  • The connected public service -reflections on the importance of local government impacts on working towards addressing national issues

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome: Have you ever questioned how you got into a role, or asked am I good enough to do this, or do I deserve this success? Imposter Syndrome is holding so many women back from reaching their full potential. At our June 12 masterclass, we have Fabian Dattner, a leadership expert specialising in local government, presenting on Overcoming Imposter Syndrome. Fabian will share six essential steps to break free from Imposter Syndrome and to step into your full potential. She will outline practical strategies for anywhere and anytime to quiet your inner critic and help your local government career thrive.

ALGWA SA members joined with the International Women's Day Committee SA International Women's Day event- The Real Deal Afternoon Tea event in Adelaide Town Hall on Wed 5 March 2025 1:30pm - 4:30pm.  
Activities are afternoon tea, a panel discussion on the theme "What's Next for Women - Marching Forward", music by Seymour Strings (this year all pieces by women composers), awards for community service, raffles. ​

  • Networking Breakfast for ALGWA SA members was held on 15 July at Cafe De Cena and was well attended.
  • ALGWA SA Planning Day, 10 February 2023 at CWA, Dequetteville Tce, Kent Town.
  • Jargon Busting-Demystifying Council Financial Processes Saturday 26 August 2023 at Salisbury Council (Presenter: Kate George ((Finance Manager at Salisbury Council Hub ).
  • ALGWA SA Annual General Meeting (Saturday 23rd September 2023 from 10am to 11:30am, Prospect Town Hall. 126 Prospect Rd, Prospect).

Previous 2022 events​
  • International Women's Day event - supported by ALGWA SA on Tuesday 8 March 2022 at Strathalbyn was organised by Cr Bronwyn Lewis (Alexandrina Council) and Cr Narelle Hardingham (Mount Barker Council). 96 people attended.
  • Our 2022 events focused on our free 2022 Women Candidates Regional Council Election Information Sessions with our 500 information booklets  "Women Leading Locally-It's Time"  distributed  at Campbelltown, Strathalbyan, Noarlunga , Woodville, Mannum, Salisbury Council and Mount Barker  as well as the 'x factor-Women in Local Government' workshop for the Barossa Valley.
           Thank you to:  Local Government Association  for promotion; Wallmans Lawyers for writing pads and the following Councils who assisted ALGWA SA with                our sessions: Campbelltown, Alexandrina, Onkaparinga, Charles Sturt,  Mid Murray, Clare &  Gilbert Valleys, Salisbury, Port Pirie and Mount Barker.                             ALGWA SA Committee and  the following  who assisted  ALGWA SA  with its sessions: Bronwyn Lewis,  Kirsty MacGregor,  Simone Bailey, Ann                                Ferguson and Samantha Jones.
